Marbled front and endpapers. The half-title is printed in black, the title-page in red and black and under the 1884 Major vignette is printed: ‘With eight original etchings and seventy-four wood engravings’. On the title-page verso the imprint reads: ‘Printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co’. At the foot of page 445 it reads: ‘Printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co, Edinburgh & London’.
